Philanthropy is built on trust. The Zezula Foundation adopts the Donor Bill of Rights developed by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), CASE, and the Giving Institute. Every donor — at any scale — is entitled to the following:
To be informed of the foundation's mission.
You have the right to understand the way the foundation intends to use donated resources and its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
To know who serves on the board.
You have the right to know the identity of the foundation's governing board and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities. Our directors are listed on the Leadership page.
To have access to our most recent financial statements.
You have the right to access the foundation's most recent IRS filings, financial statements, and governance policies. These are published on the Financials page and the Policies page, and are available on request.
To be assured your gift will be used as intended.
You have the right to expect that contributions designated to a specific program area will be used for that purpose. Designated gifts at the foundation are used entirely for the designated pillar; undesignated gifts are deployed by the board across the three pillars as outlined in the annual letter.
To receive appropriate acknowledgement.
You have the right to receive prompt, accurate, IRS-compliant acknowledgement of your gift, including any required information for your tax records. The foundation sends a contemporaneous written acknowledgement by email immediately upon receipt and a year-end summary in January.
To be assured of confidentiality.
You have the right to expect that information about your donation will be handled with respect and confidentiality. The foundation does not sell, rent, or trade donor information, and does not publicly identify individual donors without their explicit consent. See our Privacy Policy for details.
To expect a professional relationship.
You have the right to expect that all relationships with individuals representing the foundation will be professional in nature, regardless of gift size.
To know who is soliciting your gift.
You have the right to know whether those seeking donations are volunteers, board members, or paid representatives. The foundation has no paid staff and does not use professional solicitors. All outreach is conducted by the president or other board members.
To have your name removed from any list we use.
You have the right to opt out of any communication. To remove your name from our mailing list, use the unsubscribe link in any email or write to hello@zezulafoundation.org.
To feel free to ask questions — and get honest answers.
You have the right to feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful, and forthright answers. Direct any question to hello@zezulafoundation.org; we respond within two business days.
